Vanity Fair Discovers Sarah Palin is Loud and Secretive

Excellent detailed piece on Sarah Palin by journalist Michael Joseph Gross in the October 2010 issue of Vanity Fair

Sarah Palin: The Sound and the Fury

Former Republican Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin speaks at the "Restoring Honor" rally at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington on August 28, 2010.

Even as Sarah Palin’s public voice grows louder, she has become increasingly secretive, walling herself off from old friends and associates, and attempting to enforce silence from those around her. Following the former Alaska governor’s road show, the author delves into the surreal new world Palin now inhabits—a place of fear, anger, and illusion, which has swallowed up the engaging, small-town hockey mom and her family—and the sadness she has left in her wake.

Sarah Palin Could Win The 2012 GOP Presidential Nomination

A First Look at Palin’s Primary Math

by Nate Silver @ FiveThirtyEight.com

If Sarah Palin runs for the Republican nomination in 2012 — and I’ve been on record for some time as predicting that she will — what are likely to be her best and worst states? And how do these strengths and weaknesses square with the Republican primary calendar? And what about the other likely candidates?

The first, very, very important thing to notice is that the Republican primary calendar will be different in 2012 than it was two years ago. Although this could change as states jockey for position and rules are amended, for the time being the Republicans have divided the states into five groupings as seen below:

Sarah’s Secret Diary (Video)

Just a trip down memory lane … classic photo-op interview with Sarah as she explained how her resignation helped Alaska and that fishing with her children teaches them not to be ‘divas’ while waving her freshly manicured nails in Andrea Mitchell’s face … “One term was enough … You’re not listening to me!

Sarah Palin Truth Squad

Dear Diary,

No one understands me. It’s like I’m speaking some Eskimo dialect or something. Andrea Mitchell follows me all the way to Kanakanak Beach and I get a French manicure and set up this huge photo op for her, even though she spooked the salmon.

Todd and me are in our cool fishing bibs. Piper’s helping out on the boat. It’s an amazing day that shows how our Creator favored my beloved Alaska, gatekeeper of the continent, and makes a great shot for all the network reporters up here to milk. This progresses me away from my image as some kind of flaky “rogue diva” and back to my image as a tough huntin’ and fishin’ gal.

But Andrea makes such a darn big deal about how I’m quitting in the middle of my term.

“You’re not listening to me!” I snap.

Theories on Sarah Palin’s New “Stand Up for Our Nation”

Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin

From her “stroke of genius” resignation” to her Hong Kong economics lecture to her quip-friendly memoir, Sarah Palin has an uncanny gift for staying in the spotlight. Now word comes that the former ex-Alaska governor is forming a new political group, “Stand Up for Our Nation” just days after Liz Cheney launched her own group focused on national security issues. Pundits are pondering the curious timing of announcement. What does Sarah Palin have up her sleeve this time?

  • She Must Be Running For President “SarahPAC wasn’t enough?” At Hot Air, Allahpundit can’t see any other reason to form a second political group. “Would someone set up two political action groups if they weren’t thinking seriously about running for president?” he asks. Allahpundit thinks Palin’s organization will be the “domestic policy equivalent” of Liz Cheney’s group. But he’s sorry the two women didn’t combine forces. “How come she didn’t end up partnering with Liz Cheney on Keep America Safe, anyway? It would have been an amazing force multiplier among the grassroots to see their two favorite hawkish women on the same team.” Continue reading

SarahPAC Taken To Task By Feds For Illegal Contributions

OOPS: Mistakes on political donations blamed on software.

SarahPAC must provide federal investigators with detailed financial information due to inaccuracies.

Former Gov. Sarah Palin’s political action committee gave excessive contributions to two well-known Republicans and also is facing demands from the federal government for more detailed financial information on a number of fronts.

The deficiencies are highlighted in a five-page letter sent Aug. 19 by a Federal Elections Commission staffer to SarahPAC treasurer Tim Crawford. The FEC wants answers by Sept. 24.

“Failure to adequately respond by the response date noted above could result in an audit or enforcement action,” FEC campaign finance analyst Allen Norfleet wrote.

Sarah Palin NOT Coming to Speak at the Reagan Library

Ronald Reagan Presidential Library

Ronald Reagan Presidential Library

Just days after officially stepping down as governor of Alaska, former GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is dropping out of an advertised speaking engagement in Simi Valley.

Palin was slated to attend on Aug. 8 the 50th anniversary gala of the Simi Valley Republican Women, Federated, at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum. It would have been her first public appearance since leaving office and had been widely reported by media outlets.

Pat Saraceno, the spokeswoman for the Simi Valley Republican Women, said they found out Thursday that Palin wasn’t coming.

Greta Van Susteren’s Hubby Legally Hurts Palin

Although John Coale is a Washington lawyer, maybe he should have read up more on Alaskan law. His lack of knowledge now has Sarah Palin in hot water.
Alaska Governor Sarah Palin takes a pause during a speech.

Gov. Sarah Palin in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Remember when Greta Van Susteren was given unprecedented access to Sarah Palin for interviews with Van Susteren on Fox News?

There was a quid-pro-quo operating, as John Coale, Greta Van Susteren’s lawyer husband, helped Sarah in a number of ways. One of the things John Coale did for her was set up Palin’s Political Action Committee and legal defense fund, now called Alaska Fund Trust.

This legal defense fund that John Coale helped set up for Sarah Palin is now the subject of her latest ethics complaint. There is no Alaskan law that allows the Governor to use her position as a means of collecting private donations for her personal use, even to fight ethics complaints. So, it turns out that John Coale did Sarah Palin no favors.
